If snoring is a problem for you, you’ve no doubt wondered what causes it and what can be done to stop it. The good news is that there are plenty of stop snoring treatments available; what will work best for you will depend on your individual diagnosis. To help you breathe well and sleep well, Snoring Laser Care answers all your snoring questions and concerns.

What is snoring?
Snoring occurs when the muscles of the airway relax too much during sleep and vibrate (creating noise) when air we breathe passes in and out. Most people will snore at some time, however loud or chronic snoring can disrupt sleep quality and signal a more serious health problem, even in children.

Is snoring a serious health problem?
When snoring is loud or accompanied by gasps or interrupted breathing, it could mean you are suffering from Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA). OSA is a life-threatening condition which can lead to high blood pressure, arrhythmia, enlargement of the heart, stroke or lung dysfunction. OSA is a condition where the throat constricts to intermittently obstruct your ability to breathe, depriving the body of vital oxygen. OSA should not be left untreated. If you think you might have OSA, you should make an appointment with us for a thorough assessment.

I don’t have Obstructive Sleep Apnoea; should I still get my snoring assessed?
Anyone who snores will benefit from a consultation with Snoring Laser Care as we are experienced in managing sleep-disordered breathing problems. Even primary snoring (as opposed to obstructive snoring) is linked to life-threatening health issues, such as stroke. Our advice is to have a snoring assessment every couple of years to ensure that your snoring is not impacting your health and wellbeing – and help it stay that way.

Can lifestyle changes help reduce my snoring?
Sometimes snoring can be reduced with changes in lifestyle, including:

  • Quit smoking
  • Reduce alcohol consumption
  • Try sleeping on your side
  • Elevate your head by raising the head of your bed
  • Adopt a healthy, active lifestyle and avoid eating 3 hours before bedtime
  • Lose weight
  • Establish a regular sleep routine; go to bed and wake up at the same time each day

When lifestyle changes don’t work, a snoring assessment is necessary to ensure that more serious problems don’t develop.

I’ve heard about NightLase; how does it treat snoring?
Snoring Laser Care is proud to be the first dental practice in Central Queensland to perform the revolutionary NightLase treatment.

  • Ideal for snoring and sleep apnoea*
  • Safe, non-invasive and virtually painless*
  • No downtime*
  • No anaesthetic required
  • Long-lasting solution*
  • Payment plans available
  • Money-back guarantee

*Individual results may vary. Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.

Our expert medical professionals, Dr Hany and Dr Arjun, begin by using the NightLase laser to preheat your inner mouth and throat. The laser is used to smooth and tighten the tissue to reduce vibration and improve airflow to your nose and mouth. NightLase is designed to improve your quality of breathing and sleep in just three to four laser sessions – each only around 30 minutes long.

What other snoring treatment options does Snoring Laser Care offer?
There are many non-surgical and surgical snoring treatments available, depending on the diagnosis. If NightLase does not appeal to you, you might want to consider oral appliance therapy. Oral appliance therapy can be effective when used to reduce snoring and mild-to-moderate sleep apnoea. Oral appliances are designed to keep your airway open during sleep by supporting your lower jaw in a forward position to prevent your tongue from relaxing backwards. To be effective, oral appliances must be custom-fitted by one of our qualified team.
